Apollo Bay fly-in, 4-6 Feb. 2005
As every year around this time the club again took the advantage of Hans' and Fiona's hospitality and descended on his beautiful place like a swarm of locusts. Despite of the disgusting forecast, some 20 pilots arrived to to challenge the weatherman. Saturday was as bad you could imagine, with strong winds and driving rain. But looking at it from the right angle: It gave us time to recover after the long trip and gave some bastard the opportunity to steal my beautiful windsock from Mariner's Lookout.
Sunday morning didn't look much better and only Hans' charm made us to try Johana. Those, who went, didn't regret. The conditions were rather strong in the morning and only I and and a well known maniac, Campbell, took off. We had a good fun, until the wind picked up a touch more and we had to land. But it dropped off shortly again and every man and his dog went for it. The flying was so good, even the Millennium Cup was on - ask Malcolm who the winner was - I don't know...
So, Thanks Hans and Fiona for their hospitality, I think we'll come next year again!
Rather uninspiring situation at Johana carpark on Saturday.
Saturday dinner at the pub was also a celebration of Barney's and Patricia's new Aussie citizenship.
What's wrong with being Irish, MATE? :-)
Hans' Sunday morning lecture on psychology of flying and how to avoid getting in the bushes ;-).

Alone at 250m above Johana before the wind abated.
Only a few stayed on the launch after the conditions improved.
And that is where the rest of us were...
